Everything you will ever need to know about me happened when I was eleven years old. I wrote my first short story, complete in two paragraphs. Then I jumped on my bike and peddled the three blocks to my grandparent’s house.

Grandma was standing at the kitchen counter chopping walnuts in a large wooden bowl. I remember holding the piece of paper that I had written my story on and saying excitedly, “I know what I want to be when I grow up!”

Grandma turned and looked at me. “What, Joanie?”

“I’m going to be a writer!”

And then a funny thing happened. I began to cry, because I was so proud that I knew what I wanted to do with my life.

Truly, that’s all you really need to know about me. I was born to be a writer — and I am passionate about writing.

What? You still want to know more? But I’ve already told you everything you need to know.
